What our commercial clients say

Real businesses, real results

Commercial solar in Tayside & Fife - your questions answered

Yes. Scotland's central belt — including Tayside, Fife and Perthshire — receives 1,300–1,450 sunshine hours per year, generating 850–950 kWh per kWp annually. That's only around 13% less than London, and Scotland's cooler temperatures actually improve panel efficiency. Most Perthshire businesses generate significant savings from day one.

In most cases, no. Since May 2024, Scotland's Permitted Development rules mean most commercial rooftop solar installations no longer require planning permission — including in conservation areas, provided panels aren't on a road-facing primary elevation. Listed buildings and World Heritage sites are exceptions.

Scottish businesses can access: the Scotland Energy Efficiency Loan Scheme (SEELS) with interest-free loans up to £100,000; the new Scotland Solar Energy Efficiency Loans Scheme (SSEELS) launched 2025/26; 100% Annual Investment Allowance (AIA) tax relief in year one; and a business rates exemption on solar until 2035. Herofix helps you identify and apply for what you're eligible for.

System size depends on your roof area, orientation, and energy usage. Herofix offers a free on-site commercial survey across Tayside, Fife and Perthshire to assess exactly what your premises can support and what savings you can realistically expect.
